Konoba
Restaurant & Bar, Mahé, Seychelles - 2009
“I thought of these schools of fish, crossed with their heads in the water, which would take possession of the restaurant to culminate in a whirlpool above the bar.”
Located on the island of Mahé, Konoba is a place to live and meet over a meal, a drink or a concert. Inspired by the aquatic scenery at hand, Konoba is imagined as an atypical place where marine life emerges from the water. A rock on which the movements of the waves are reflected welcomes visitors, who are invited to enjoy the place in chairs reminiscent of boat sails. A coral barrier, made of wooden strips and vibrant colors, adorns the bar wall and delimits the spaces dedicated to visitors and staff. The ceiling is a tangle of shapes evoking waves, with a school of fish moving through the various spaces. This is the masterpiece, a sculpture of 8,000 pieces of metal suspended from the ceiling like a school of fish invited to join the abyssal depths.
