Boutique Hotel, Grand Baie, Mauritius, 2010
"I imagined wave walls, sofas with shapes polished by the winds, floors like surf on sand, floating chandeliers like majestic jellyfish. It's all about waves, reflections and the interplay of organic lines."
This 13-room boutique hotel in Grand Baie, Mauritius, faces one of the island's most beautiful lagoons, from which it draws its inspiration. The interiors have been designed as a poetic, metaphorical journey around the theme of the sea. In a contemporary aesthetic, the concept unfolds in white undulations on the walls and ceilings of the restaurant, rooms and terraces, like a thread that gently transports us to the lagoon. The spaces are adorned with a collection of bespoke furniture designed especially for the hotel. Grey-toned pebbles and strata act as seats, tables, cushions and rugs, in velvet as soft as wave-polished stones. Electroluminescent fiber chandeliers overhang the restaurant and the ocean, like jellyfish illuminating the lagoons.
